Victims of Domestic Violence
If you are a victim of domestic violence and concerned about your rights as a tenant of a rental property, or a landlord renting to a victim of domestic violence, Arizona law provides early termination of a rental agreement by a tenant for domestic violence as long as certain criteria is met. The specific criteria can be found in the Arizona Revised Statute 33-1318 which covers early termination by a tenant for domestic violence; conditions; lock replacement; access refusal; treble damages; immunity. This information is also covered in the Arizona Residential and Landlord Tenant Act.
The Arizona Department of Housing does not regulate the Arizona Residential Landlord and Tenant Act or resolve landlord and tenant issues.
If you are seeking guidance concerning Arizona Residential Landlord and Tenant Act, you may wish to consult an attorney. Public members who are not represented by an attorney, may find it helpful to contact free community legal services by visiting the Community Legal Services website at www.clsaz.org.
