Featured Grand Openings Around the State - Summer 2019
The Arizona Department of Housing is currently committed to or actively involved in financing 3,322 affordable rental units, in various stages of production: 2,144 units in pre-development, 1,178 currently under construction or renovation and 686 units with a request for funding are presently under review. Of the 1,178 in production, 317 units are expected to receive Certificates of Occupancy in the next quarter and be ready to receive new renters.
Saguaro Ki, Phoenix
On June 7, Saguaro Ki celebrated the opening of permanent rental housing community in Phoenix for homeless transition-age youth ages 18 to 24 years old who are working on a long term self-sufficiency plan. The project consisted of repurposing an existing housing project and rehabilitating 24 studio units, new roofing, plumbing and HVAC. ADOH provided an investment of $500,000 in Housing Trust Funds (HTF).
The Marist on Cathedral Square, Tucson
The Marist on Cathedral Square celebrated the grand openings of two properties on April 11, 2019. This affordable apartment community for seniors located in the Downtown Core District is demolition, adaptive re-use and new construction on two sites, consisting of 83 units with housing for older persons (age 62+). Site I is the existing Tucson Catholic Diocese Offices which has been demolished and replaced with a seven-story building. Site II is the Marist College which is the only existing three-story historic structure in Arizona built with mud adobe and is listed on the National Historic Register. ADOH provided an investment of $17.5 million in Low Income Housing Tax Credits (LIHTC) to the project.
